    Baby Moon Hubcaps

After months of pondering and contemplation, I have finally mounted BABY MOON hubcaps on my fabulous 2012 Fiat 500 Pop! I'm a large fan of the "sometime schoolhouse" look.

I used hubcap clips from a early on 1960's VW bug (institute them on Ebay). The baby moons are 10-inch hubcaps from hubcapmike.com. The 15-inch "beauty rings" are too from hubcapmike.com. The wheels are painted with Rustoleum "Almond" gloss lacquer. It is a three-coat job.

Take a expect at the close up shot of the clip mounted on the wheel. I used a 10-24 tap and cut a thread in the beautiful steel wheel. Use a half-inch length spiral and a lock washer and the clip volition remain secure (hopefully). Information technology was easy and straightforward. Just 4 clips per bicycle and those hubcaps stay put--fifty-fifty 1,000 miles afterward.

Please permit me know what you think! Feedback (good or bad) is appreciated.

YES Yep Yeah Yep Yep Yes a chiliad times YES! I love it. Totally works with the Fiat manner, really brings out the chrome, looks amazing. I want. LOL! I'd exist tempted to go all out, and take the steelies washed in trunk color. I also take Verde Chiaro with some chrome $.25. Those would exist the cat's meow on my car too.

I love retro, I dearest all kinds of older small (tiny!) cars. But I similar all the new conveniences. Your car has all the old schoolhouse vibes with the new conveniences. Information technology looks smashing.

I've swiped i of your pictures to put in my Fiat folder. THIS is something I'd honey for wheels.

A keen idea, though I'd do them in black, or as VW did, body color, merely would have the rims downwards to a place that does powder coating, and have them done that mode for a more durable finish, so practice what you did.

I have thought for older style Hondas with the steel wheel and the chrome center hub cap, I'd become adept trim rings, and take the wheels painted gloss black to highlight the trim rings, and the stock centre cap (the 1983 Civic S did this, and information technology looked sharp against the bright red paint). Even the mid 80's Chevettes with the aforementioned blazon of wheels, they worked improve with the wheels in black, with trim rings, and chrome center cap, than the run of the factory argent painted ones.

    Nice job all effectually.

The dazzler rings have a spring/gripper that holds them in place. They but snap on with a fleck of light pounding with your palm. A gentle rap around the ring is all that is required.

Aye, these are the stock xv-inch steelies that are standard on ALL Pop models. Just pull off those beautiful plastic hubcaps that came with the automobile and you will find these same wheels (painted black from the factory).

I got a drill flake and tap (this cuts the threads) at that Big Orange domicile supply store. You lot will need to get a tap wrench. Better even so, go see the guys at your local Ace Hardware. They ever have knowledgeable folks working there who can teach yous how to use the tap wrench and create the threads for the screws. The Large Orange stores never seem to have decent help or experienced folks anymore. Likewise, Ace Hardware stores are usually small family unit-run stores. Nosotros need to support pocket-sized business concern in this country. You may pay a couple of bucks more for the tools but the noesis yous will gain will be well worth it.

If you determine to tackle this amazingly simple project, just drill the holes at the pinnacle of the round "hump" as seen in the pictures. The Volkswagen hubcap clips have a lot of flex and should concur the babe moon hubcaps fifty-fifty if you aren't dead-accurate with your drilling. It is advisable to drill a smaller airplane pilot hole first. Then drill out the pilot hole with the correct larger drill flake. Trust me on this.

Recollect to apply a x-24 tap and half-inch long 10-24 screws. Yous MUST use lock washers! I did use stainless steel screws and lock washers. The VW clips will rust long before the wheels or screws. I strongly advise that you paint before you drill and tap the wheels.
